40+ Easy Ways to Add Storage to Your Work Space
When you work at home you often have to set up shop in whatever space is available. Sometimes that’s the kitchen table or under the stairs or in a tiny corner of open space. And sometimes it means relocating your office multiple times a day in order to work around your family.
But having an office space that isn’t ideal doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice organization or storage. With just a few items you can add storage that is perfectly suited to the office space you’re using…or that you’re stuck with. 😉
Let’s take a look at the easy ways to add office storage!

Drawer Units
Drawer units add big storage for the space they occupy. With drawers, cubbies, and/or shelves, there’s one to meet every storage need!
Filing Cabinets
Another easy way to add office storage is with file cabinets. Many of these cabinets do double duty by organizing your papers and files while also offering additional storage with drawer space.
File Boxes
Files boxes are a great office storage option if your office needs to be mobile. It’s easy to store these boxes in a closet then pull them out when you need them. And some of them are even pretty enough to leave out (like option #2 below).
The final file box option below is perfect for adding extra storage to the top of your desk. It would be perfect for holding action files or as an office inbox!

Rolling Carts
I love rolling carts! There are so many different configurations, and the multitude of drawers makes organization a breeze. Plus, there are lots of fun accessories to make rolling carts even more versatile (see #3 and #5 below)!
Vertical Storage
Sometimes the only option for additional office storage is to go vertical. Wall mounted storage units are the perfect way to make the most of available vertical storage. There are many different styles and configurations here, too, so you’re sure to find an option that fits your needs.
Pegboards are one of my favorite ways to add vertical office storage, because they can be customized for any use. There are tons of accessories with endless configurations. And, if your needs change, it’s simple to rearrange your pegboard!
I used a pegboard to help organize my craft “room” when I relocated it to an extra closet. Learn more in this post: How I Squeezed a Craft Room into a Closet.
Shelves
If you need to add office storage for books or bins, shelves are the way to go. Style options are endless, and there are heavy duty options for extra sturdy storage.
The final shelf option below is actually a kitchen storage unit, but I often find some of the best storage options outside of the office department. So, don’t hesitate to look at items that aren’t specific to office spaces!
Cabinets
Cabinets tend to be a little more expensive than other ways to add office storage, but if you have a dedicated office and aesthetics are important to you, you can’t go wrong with these storage options!
Stackable Storage
If the only storage space available in your office is the corner of a desk or a small section of the floor, then take a look at stackable storage options.
The ability to stack these bins saves you tons of space, but you still get the organization benefits because of the individual drawers or bins.
Over Door Storage
An often overlooked option for office storage is the back of a door. With the right storage option you can maximize this space and keep office items out of view but still maintain good organization.
40+ Easy Ways to Add Office Storage
By adding a few, targeted storage pieces to your office, you can get your work space organized and have a more productive area in which to build your business.
These 40+ easy ways to add office storage provide options for all kinds of storage needs whether you’re working with a small space, a mobile office, trying to corral paper clutter, or organize a desk that’s doing double or triple duty!
